Candle molds

Candle molds are use to give candles the shape. There are many different types of candle molds that can be used, from rigid glass, plastics ones to metal and latex molds. However, have a look around your house and you will be suprised at the many things you can use for molds. Things such as milk cartons, plastic cup and containers are perfect for molds.

You can buy pre-made molds which can be used again or alternatively you can make your own molds.

Rigid Molds

Rigid molds can be made from either glass, metal or plastic. Rigid molds are used to make unusual shapes such as bold geometrical shapes. Plastic molds are often used as they are the cheapest. However you can not use rigid plastic molds with candle scents or fill them with wax heated to over 80 degrees celcius (175 deg farenheit) as this can cause damage to the mould.

Latex Molds

Latex molds are very popular as they are easy to use and relatively inexpensive. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are quite versatile. Latex is very stretchable and is often used to create more complex shapes such as animals, fruits and flowers.

Improvised Molds

If you decide to create your own candle molds, then you need to look no further than the kitchen. Yoghurt pots, milk cartons, drinking classes, cake tins, bowls, tins and even strong cardboard are fantastic as candle molds. Just ensure that the container has no overhangs or else it could be difficult to remove the candle when the wax sets.
